Psalm 144:4 Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.

Sacrifice (part 4) – Disclaimer

(see the whole series – Part 1 – Ending Sacrifice Part 2 – Christ’s Sacrifice Part 3 – Self Sacrifice)

Before I begin, I thought long and hard about sharing the intimate details that I share in my next post. I write not to make myself look pious or special, I am not blowing my own trumpet, nor am I attempting to appear some kind of super-christian or incredibly spiritual person. I write this post as an encouragement and inspiration to anyone who thinks that they can’t give enough or give anything or can’t sacrifice enough or indeed, sacrifice anything.

I hope that in this you can see the struggle of a flawed, frail and often foolish man to live in a way that is ‘right’ and pleasing to my creator, my God, my perfect father who I’m just madly in love with.

Nothing I do is an attempt to appease God’s anger nor to win some kind of favour and ‘buy’ His affections.

I know I am fully loved, fully forgiven, fully redeemed by Christ and completely saved by no action or work of my own.

There is nothing good in me but Jesus. And because Jesus is living in me I do good, If you observe me living at all like Jesus you are seeing Jesus living through me.

Because I am loved, because that love gives me comfort and peace, because that love fills me with joy and that joy spills out in response to my loving God.

The way I live gives me joy, not only because I know it gives God joy but because I believe I’ve been gifted with the grace of giving: Giving makes me joyful (there is scientific evidence that shows that it’s the same for everyone but that will have to wait for another time).

I love God! I desire to be intimate with him and I want to make him happy.

I’d do anything for my wife because I love her and desire to see her smile, this same love also describes why I live the way I live. It is because I am loved by God and I love God and God lives in me.

I’ve come to the point where I wouldn’t want to live any other way, I can’t imagine wanting to live in a way that doesn’t please the one I love.

The next post will outline (in borrowed words from ‘heaven in ordinaire taken from previous comments’) the most practical, helpful, and in my experience, most appropriate ways I’ve found of trying (and failing) to live it all out.

I will say it again for clarity; There is nothing good in me but Jesus. And because Jesus is living in me I do good, If you observe me living at all like Jesus you are seeing Jesus living through me.
